Soldeu will host the Women's Alpine Ski World Cup in March 2027

The International Ski Federation (FIS) held its FIS Spring Meetings this week in Portorož (Slovenia) to prepare for the upcoming season. In addition to various meetings on different aspects of competition operations and the world of skiing, the calendars for the World Cup and the European Cup for next winter have been set. As for Andorra, Soldeu once again enters as a host of the Women's World Cup, this time on Saturday, March 6 and Sunday, March 7, 2027.

Giant Slalom and Slalom on the Avet

According to this calendar, the Avet slope in the Soldeu sector of Grandvalira will host the Giant Slalom World Cup on Saturday, March 6, and the Slalom World Cup on Sunday, March 7. Thus, it will be the seventh time Andorra hosts a World Cup. The world circuit first arrived in the Principality in 2012. It then returned in 2016, 2019, 2023, 2024, and this past season, 2026. It will continue next year. Moreover, it will be the fifth time that the World Cup is held on the Avet slope—technical disciplines—after the editions of 2012, 2019, and 2023 (both, WC Finals) and 2024.

Carles Visa, CEO of the FAE, expressed his satisfaction that Andorra remains part of the world circuit: “Although initially we weren't included, we had to wait for this spring meeting, and now we're back in. It's a great goal for Carla Mijares, and why not for Íria Medina and Clàudia Garcia. We need to keep working to reach the highest level challenges. It's a very good objective and in sporting terms, it's important.” As a country, we are once again on the most important calendar there is,” Visa added, “because it's a great opportunity for our skiers to keep growing.”

In turn, from the World Cup Organizing Committee, David Hidalgo, CEO of the event expressed his satisfaction at returning to the calendar, and highlighted that “the consolidation of Soldeu and Andorra as an almost permanent venue for the World Cup is the result of many years of work and of having earned the respect of athletes, coaches, media, and the public. In a very competitive circuit, today we are among the most highly valued venues, thanks to teamwork and the commitment of a whole country where skiing is the national sport.”

An Andorran delegation attended in Portorož, representing the FAE: president Pepi Pintat, vice president Patrick Toussaint, as well as Antoni Crespo (board member), Carles Visa (CEO), and the directors of alpine and cross-country skiing, Roger Vidosa and Xabier del Val, respectively.

Representing the Soldeu Organizing Committee were David Hidalgo, CEO; Santi López, sports director; Marc Mitjana and Irene Gómez, general secretariat.
