Competition Lines – Ordino Arcalís
Ordino Arcalís is one of the most renowned mountains in the freeride world and offers multiple natural line options for competition.
For the FIS Freeride World Championships 2026, the available lines are defined in accordance with the official criteria established by FIS FWT.
Criteria for defining the lines
According to the regulations, the lines must meet the following requirements:
- A single descent per rider.
- Multiple possible starting points, shared or category-specific.
- Similar vertical drop and features between starting points within the same category.
- Equivalent access to each starting point (on foot or using climbing skins).
- A mandatory alternative line if multiple starting points exist.
- Natural terrain, modified only for safety reasons.
- Prior visual inspection using photographs and a guide/forerunner.
All these criteria ensure safety, fairness, and a variety of options, allowing each rider to choose their best possible line.
Possible lines in Ordino Arcalís
Ordino Arcalís offers some of the most iconic freeride terrain in the world, with multiple faces, couloirs and aspects that allow for varied, fluid and technical lines. For the FIS Freeride World Championships 2026, several areas of the ski domain have been identified as having the potential to be used as competition routes, always in accordance with the official FIS FWT criteria.
Below is a general description of the main areas and possible lines, as shown on the technical map provided.
Potential competition zones and lines
1. Smoothy’s Garden
Located in the central part of the massif, this area is known for its combination of wide slopes, multiple exits and sections with natural drops.
It offers fluid and versatile lines, suitable for different riding styles.
2. Quince Metros
One of the most distinctive areas of the sector, characterised by its significant vertical drop and highly varied terrain.
It allows for routes featuring narrow couloirs, changes of rhythm and natural jumps.
3. Port del Rat
An elevated area with several technical couloir entrances and direct views over the central Arcalís area.
It often allows for more exposed lines with a strategic character.
4. Basser Negre
A classic freeride sector in Arcalís, marked on the map with three subzones:
- South-East
- East
- North-East
These aspects offer a combination of deep couloirs, narrow passages and faces with multiple variations.
It is one of the most complete and demanding terrains, ideal for high-scoring lines.
5. Pic de les Planes
An area located on the far right of the attached map, characterised by open slopes descending towards the base of the ski area.
It allows for fast, wide lines, with jump options in the upper section.
