Victor Torres: “we want to convey the social values of the candidacy. Not only is it a sporting project, but we are also looking to make the event accessible to everyone”

The ski slopes in the El Tarter sector of the Grandvalira ski station hosted an accessible day of activities in the snow for children who suffer some form of disability. The day was organised by the candidacy team for the Alpine World Ski Championships Andorra 2029 in alignment with the values being promoted by the project to make the event accessible. On this day, a total of seven children, that were accompanied by educators from the Andorran School in Santa Coloma, skied with the support of the Adaptive Centre of the Ski and Snowboard School from the ski station. They enjoyed a session with the mushing dogs that pull the sleds and they finished the day with a meal. Victor Torres, Sustainability Director for the Andorra 2029 candidacy, highlighted: “we want to convey the social values of the candidacy. Not only is it a sporting project, but we are also looking to make the event accessible to everyone.”

The bid is working on a vision of the event that comprises of two main pillars. On the one hand, is inclusion, with the aim of turning the ski station and the country into a source of inspiration for different groups. This is through the improvement of inclusive and accessible products, services and infrastructures that allow barriers to be eliminated and by promoting social inclusion and equal opportunities. And on the other hand, are skiing and health with the aim of encouraging the healthy habits that sport brings from infancy, whilst also encouraging continued training toward professional and elite skiing levels.
