Soldeu is appointed as a new member of the prestigious Club 5 Ski Classics
As a World Cup event organiser, the Grandvalira resort enters the elite of the most prestigious venues in the world.
The Soldeu sector of Grandvalira has been appointed a new member of the prestigious Club 5 Ski Classics, the association that brings together the "classic" races of the Great White Carnival. Last Thursday, the 28th of September, the Club5 plenary session took place in Zurich, coinciding with the FIS Autumn Technical Committee meetings. As reported in a statement, Soldeu received unanimous approval from the members. This was following receipt of the favourable dossier from Rainer Senoner, vice president of the Club5, who came to Andorra during the World Cup Finals last March. This was when he prepared the assessment report on the Pyrenean country hosting venue.
Club5 is the amalgamation of the leading World Cup organisers and was founded and inspired by the sports journalist, Serge Lang. Gröden/Gardena (ITA), Garmish-Partenkirchen (GER), Kitzbühel (AUT), Wengen (SUI) and Val d'Isère (FRA) were the first members. Later, other major ski stations from around the world joined:
- 1994 - Alta Badia (ITA)
- 1997 - Cortina d’Ampezzo (ITA)
- 1997 - Kranjska Gora (SLO)
- 1998 - Schladming (AUT)
- 1998 - Maribor (SLO)
- 2003 - Lake Louise (CAN) (2003 - 2021)
- 2004 - Adelboden (SUI)
- 2005 - Kvjetfjell (NOR)
- 2010 - St. Moritz (CH)
- 2011 - Åre (SWE)
- 2013 - Zagreb (HR)
- 2016 - Crans-Montana (CH)
- 2020 - Madonna di Campiglio (ITA)
- 2021 - Jasna (SVK) – Affiliate Member
Soldeu made contact with Club5 following the 2019 World Cup Finals. To be able to become part of this association as an affiliate member a venue needs to meet a series of requirements, such as having organised different events on the Men's and Women's World Cup circuit to a high standard.
Club5 shares improvements that can improve its organisations. It also works to promote the interests of its members in terms of television rights or race schedules, as well as defending their concerns with a single voice to the FIS, among other things.
With Soldeu (Grandvalira) joining, Club5 will now have 20 members.
